NATO and Its New Military Security Position

NATO and Its New Military Security Position describes two central elements by the end of the Cold War period: the shift from collective to "selective security" and from reaction to "pre-action". In short, NATO decides which security challenges the organization wants in which to engage and if so, it will try to prevent an aggressor or an incident to take place/escalate.

The Foreign and Defence Policies of the Nordic Countries and the Unique Case of Denmark´s Military Activism

The chapter reviews the foreign policies of the four Nordic countries from the Cold War period and to today with respect to four elements: Security, foreign policy, its vision (What values do we stand for in our national foreign policy?), and coalition actors. Then, the four nations´participations in recent international military operations are compared and finally, four reasons are presented for the recent military activism of Denmark.

Politiken, kronik. 06.02.2004
